Albany Center for Real Estate Education
General School Policy Manual


The Albany Center for Real Estate Education is a NYS approved proprietary school that offers NYS approved real estate courses for classroom and online education. We follow all NYS regulations governing the administering of the qualifying and continuing education courses. The following information covers general school policy. Individual matters may be discussed with the Administrator, Marcia Spada.

All calls will be answered during business hours which are 9:00am -5:00pm. If a person does not answer the phone, students should leave a message on the voice mail. Phone calls or emails will be promptly returned during the business day.

2. Assignments: There are generally no formal homework assignments. The instructor may suggest some reading prior to class or some independent study such as the review questions at the end of a chapter. A student's grade is based solely on fulfilling the attendance requirement and also passing a final exam if that is necessary for the course.

3 The Albany Center has no broadcast capabilities.

4.Student materials: Students taking online courses must have a computer capable of accessing the Internet with enough memory to complete the online courses. It is also helpful, but not mandatory, for all students to have an email account so that the school can provide information through email. Some courses require that the student purchase a textbook. Some courses include a workbook that the school will provide. There is on workbook for online courses. The online courses do not require the purchase of a textbook.

5. Testing information: The NYS Salesperson, Broker, and Remedial qualifying courses, whether taken in class or online, require that students successfully complete an exam at the end of the course in order to obtain course credit. The exams are all multiple choice. The Salesperson exam has 75 questions, the Broker exam has 100 questions and the Remedial exam has 50 questions. Online students for these courses must come to the Albany Center to take the exam upon completion of the online course.

6.Grading information: Pass grade for all three exams is 70%. If students fail the exam, the may take one make up exam. This make up must be scheduled by appointment with the administrator. NYS approved continuing education courses, whether taken online or in the class, are not graded. The students must only fulfill the attendance requirement.

7. Attendance requirement for classroom courses. All qualifying courses require 90% attendance. All CE courses require 100% attendance.

8 Distance site locations: All distance learning courses are monitored at the Albany Center offices at 107 Everett Road, Albany, New York 12205. This is the only site for the school. 

9. Responsibilities and procedures for missed technology session: Students who miss more than is allowed for the attendance requirement must retake the course in its entirety when it is next offered. Instructions for the online course are included in the course itself. No other technology sessions are available.


10.  Resource information: Students who need extra resources to help them with their course work must contact the administrator or instructor who will assist them in accessing resources beyond what may be presented in the course. These resources must be accessed by appointment. These resources include material from the instructor manual to the textbook they are using, practice review exams, personal tutoring and personal viewing of applicable PowerPoint presentations. Resources can be sent through email or fax to either classroom or online students.
11.Deadlines: Students who complete any of the qualifying courses must take the final exam at the time scheduled at the end of the course. If for some reason, the student cannot take the exam at that time, they must schedule an exam with the administrator within 30 days of completion of the course. Online students who complete any of the qualifying courses must take their exam with 30 days of completion the online course.

12. Registration periods: The Albany Center offers year around open registration for all online courses. Students may register for classroom courses up to the morning that the course begins. Schedules for classroom courses are posted on the Albany Center website. 

13: Withdrawal information. Students who withdraw from a course, whether it is a classroom course or an online course, at any time during the course will not receive a refund once the course begins. They will receive credit that can be applied within one year for any course offered through the Albany Center.

14.Fees and refunds. Fees for all courses and any textbooks are other materials are due upon registration. Should a student decide not to take a course, the course fee is fully refundable if the student notifies the school any time before the course begins. If online students enroll for a course and do not complete any of the course, their fee is fully refundable. See the withdrawal information in #13 for course credit once a course is begun. Should a student receive a course credit and use that credit, there is a $50 registration fee. 

Online students for any of the qualifying courses may attend a classroom class for back up information at no charge within 5 months of enrolling for the online course. The online student will no receive course credit for classroom attendance. 15.  ADA information. The Albany Center is in a one-story building and is fully handicapped accessible with handicapped parking and handicapped accessible bathrooms and doorways. The Building is in compliance with the American With Disabilities Act.. In addition, the Albany Center will make every effort to assure the comfort of all students who use our facility. 

16.  Mailing procedures: Students who complete qualifying courses or continuing at the Albany Center site will receive their certificate of completion and other documentation upon completion of the course and/or passing their exam. This material is handed to the student at the time the exam is completed and both the exam and attendance is reviewed by the Administrator. This applies to both online and classroom students. Students may also request to have their documentation mailed to them. If so, it will be mailed through regular US Postal Service mail the next day. Students who require special mailings such as overnight or 2-day will have to pay to cover the extra cost of the postage only. 

17. Technology support services available to students. In the classroom, the Albany Center uses PowerPoint to enhance the instructor and sometimes the Internet, when applicable.

18. Completion and assignment time lines. There are no specific assignments required except what is outlined in #2. Online students must complete their course within 180 days of commencement. Classroom students complete the course as scheduled. The classroom schedule is posted on the Albany Center website. Students also receive a schedule for the subject and hours for each class on the first day of the class. 

19.  Any “transfer” credits approved, prior learning assessment policies or prerequisites. (This generally applies only to colleges offering professional education.) The Albany Center is a proprietary school and does not have any credit offerings.

20. Course completion policies. Online students taking the salesperson, broker and remedial courses must complete the course within 180 days after commencing the course including the exam. Classroom students taking either the qualifying courses or the continuing education courses, must complete the course as posted in the schedule they receive on the first day of class.

Instructor Guidelines

1. Instructors and any support staff must always, be courteous and respectful to all individuals who call, enter, or contact the school through any means whether it be email, fax, website, or in person.

2. Individual problems that cannot be addressed by the instructor or any support staff should be brought to the attention of the owner, Marcia Spada, immediately.

3. All phone calls taken by any support staff or instructor should be logged in an appointment book with contact information.

4. Instructors may never during the course or if proctoring the exam give out any exam answers or discuss specific questions that appear on the exam.

5. Instructors and support staff may not speak disparagingly about any other member of the school staff, any other person in the classroom, or any other school or program offering.

6. Instructors should not allow students to read other material not pertaining to class or use their computers, PDAs, cell phones or any other devices during class sessions if not being used for the learning at hand.Students who disobey these rules may be asked to leave the room.

7. All learning materials not provided by the school must be preapproved by the owner, Marcia Spada before using it in the classroom.

 

 

Student Support for Online Courses



1. Students who take the salesperson, broker, and remedial New York courses are required to take a classroom exam at the Albany Center offices. Appointments may by made by phone or email upon completion of the course. Email: cramfor exam@hotmail.com. Phone: 518.489.0477. Every attempt will be made to accommodate the student's schedule.

2. Students who have questions or need support for online courses may call the school during regular business hours or send an email as described in #1.

3. Students may call the school during regular business hours and ask to speak to the instructor or leave a message. If the instructor is available, she will speak to the students immediately. Generally, all questions will be responded to during the course of that business day.

4. If a response is not made for an unforeseen reason during the course of the business day, the instructor respond to questions regarding the online courses by phone or email no later than 24 hours after the contact is made by the student. Students will not receive a response on weekends or holidays when the school is closed.
Students may request a school schedule before commencing the course. School holidays are posted on the school website

5. If immediate assistance is required, the student should indicate so in the email or phone message.
